Thanks for visiting vfxblog, the website of visual effects journalist Ian Failes.
I’m a freelance VFX – animation – filmmaking – VR – gaming writer. For five years I was a senior writer at fxguide.com, the premiere online location for in-depth visual effects news and information.
Some of the publications I contribute to include Cartoon Brew, 3DArtist, VFX Voice, Thrillist, Syfy, Inverse, Digital Arts, MovieMaker, Empire Magazine Australia and Develop.
My first book, Masters of FX, was published by Ilex and Focal Press in August 2015. This full-colour 192 page book features interviews with 16 of the world’s best visual effects supervisors and the films they’ve worked on.
I was recently an animation consultant for DK for their book, The LEGO Batman Movie: The Making of the Movie. It involved a fun week at Animal Logic collating imagery and details on the film.
I also collect memorabilia from the movie Speed (it’s true), and if you happen to have any posters, magazines or anything collectible from the film, feel free to get in touch.
Please send me an email.
